Infrastructure Blitz

Federal Infrastructure minister Anthony Albanese has been at the forefront of the Rudd Government's spending whirlwind this month, announcing dozens of locally focussed infrastructure projects.

The Minister's office has released a near-constant stream of media releases this month, as the effects of the two Federal stimulus packages begin to trickle-down. 39 separate April press statements about infrastructure have been made thus far in April, with the Minister visiting several targeted sites as part of the blitz.Bellerive Oval, Tasmania

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Treasurer Wayne Swan announced the two stimulus packages, $10.4 billion and $42 billion, in October and February respectively. $29 billion of the second package was set aside for "nation building", of which two key elements are transport and local council infrastructure.

The following local council funding has been announced this month:

  • Construction of Ballina Community Services Centre (Ballina Shire Council)
  • Construction of Bondi Marine Discovery Centre (Waverly Council)
  • Development of Swan River Regional Park (City of Swan)
  • Upgrading of Bellerive Oval (Clarence City Council)
  • Building of Kingborough Sports Complex (Kingborough Council)
  • Construction of Windsor Park Community Wellbeing Centre (West Tamar Council)
  • Redevelopment of Aurora Stadium (Launceston City Council)
  • Upgrade of Waverley Park Pavilion (Waverley Council)
  • Development of Newcastle Museum (Newcastle City Council)
  • Construction of Ryde Community and Sports Centre (Ryde City Council)
  • Building of Eureka Centre for Democracy (Ballarat City Council)
